The Remiks are here - 7 boys and 1 girl! Mama Remy and Papa Erik decided to play a trick on us all. You all know how much we love the boys but really! We are thrilled to report that all the babies are vital and healthy. Remy is a 1st class mother keeping her babies well-fed and very clean. Although we had tried to negotiate a daytime delivery Remy decided to do it her way. She was up and restless at 2 a.m. and by 5:10 a.m. January 29 her first baby was born. The last pup was delivered at 9:41 a.m.
Our good friend (and Merlin's guardian), Dr. Fran Mason, was our "Whelper Helper" - again. She has been with us for 5 sleepless nights - one during each of our last five litters. Thank you Fran for being here for us and Remy. Knowing you’re “on call” gives us such a sense of confidence and relief that the pups and Remy would be fine.
Remy's guardian, Randell Bartlett joined us in the early morning - also lending a much appreciated hand and much love and support for her very tired girl. This was Randell’s first experience with whelping and couldn’t have been more helpful.
Wednesday, January 31 was our trip to the vet for a check up and the tail docking and dew claw removal. Thank you Sarah Hunt, Devana's guardian, for volunteering for this important process. Sarah held paws and administered Rescue Remedy and Traumeel (to me *and* the pups!). Sarah, as you experienced, this is a stressful process for me and your assistance helped me stay focused and confident that we would get it right.
Finally, a huge thank you to Debbie and Rich Loomis and Diane Wilkinson for letting us use your handsome, talented and sweet boy, Erik as the sire of this litter. We're confident all of the wonderful things we wanted to use Erik for will come shining through in this litter.
